Now we know what the 2016 Mazda Miata weighs

Buried within the minutiae of a Mazda North America release on what was admittedly a neat thing-a free DLC pack for Forza Horizon 2 giving players the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata-is a juicy detail, and one piece of the puzzle previously unknown-the car's curb weight:

• 2,332 lbs for the manual.
• 2,381 lbs for the automatic.

That puts the new Miata at roughly 150 lbs less than the outgoing model. And while it's good to know the car is lighter, as promised, in North American trim, it doesn't change our impressions of it one bit.

We drove the smaller-engined, JDM-spec car a few weeks ago and unequivocally loved it-in fact, Jack Baruth called it "a defiant wake-up call to car builders who consider porcine heft business as usual."

Well said, Jack. And now we have a number to quote when bragging about which automakers' weights are moving in the right direction.
