Correct tyre profile Mk3 MX5 Advice required

Have a bit of a headache due to lack of tyre knowledge.Present vehicle has 17" wheels fitted.Just concerned regarding correct profile, whilst ordering new tyres supplier questioned profile?Present fitted tyres are 205/45ZR17 supplier stating should be 205/50R17??? advice please
